This is an historic moment for the continent, and it is important that we celebrate it while also being honest about the history that brought us here. Winning a bid of this magnitude does not happen overnight, nor is it the work of a handful of people who happen to be visible at the handover.

The people who initiated, advocated for, built relationships, put in the work and helped make WorldPride coming to Africa possible deserve to be named and acknowledged. That includes Viola, Mike, Romeo, Carmen, Idriez, Luciano and the wider Ekasi Pride community.

Celebration should not come at the expense of proper recognition. There is enough room to honour those who are representing the bid today while also giving credit to those whose work helped make this historic moment possible. We should not rewrite the history of our own movement.

This is ridiculous. Of all the things that are happening in the country they could have this conference about, they choose this. All the money that could have gone to starving people that will fund this conference could have gone the poor and starving but it's used for this?? The lgbtqia+ community isn't and shouldn't be a priority because it threatens nobody. Corruption, gbv and unemployment on the other hand?

With all due respect, what exactly was the purpose of them being there except for riding on a boat?

There was no holistic message or branding, signage or actual indication of what the people were looking at.

Anti trump signs, a couple of Pride ally t-shirts, a recycled non-descript blue furry mascot with a pink cowboy hat, some government official with a loud hailer and international music...

Does Cape Town pride actually know what they have taken on?

Madonna and Kylie at Amsterdam world pride, RuPaul, Paris Hilton and Diana Ross at brighton pride, what did Cape Town pride have? Drag queens and their singing buddies. What amazing night life or venues do we have? Where are all the gay owned / gay friendly accommodation spots? What amazing gay cafe and restaurant culture exists? Amsterdam had over 80 boats, we can't even get 10 on a regular pride...

I think it's going to be a complete disaster and embarrassment for South Africa.
