lisa lashes is so “over” … how was she chosen to headline at pride? i can’t think of a “whiter” choice – in a majority black country, how can a decision like this have been made? Hard house is so 10 years ago! no wonder black people do not support pride in this country – whoever is responsible for the decision should be removed from the pride board immediately – this is embarrassing .. really now – how on earth is lisa lashes relevant to this event? bad, stupid, arrogant whitey decisions like this keep our community divided – can somebody please take responsibility and make sure this type of decision can not happen again? no, no, no!

Board if the first pride was in 1990 should this year not be our ‘coming of age’ 21st Celebration ! And not 22yrs as stated in all Press releases .

Hi Serious clubber
Joburg Pride does not choose artists based on colour. Our line up includes majority LGBTI performers – drag acts, DJ’s and bands – of all colour and all sexuality. Lisa Lashes was a hard house dj but now plays predominantly a mix of techno trance and house. Everyone has a right to an opinion – but unfortunately we can not cater for everyones tastes on the day of Pride. In the past – people on the day have preferred to have DJ’s perform rather than bands. We try to mix it up – with new DJ’s, local acts and more well known acts. We also have limited funds which determines what artists we can bring out – as fee’s transport and accomodation do need to be paid. Whatever person is on stage should not stop people from attending Joburg Pride. It is a day to celebrate together as people. It is actually the one day where sexual preference, colour, age, male, female should not be highlighted – but instead we hear comments on the day referring to whitey, colour, being butch or fem, top or bottom, are you the man or woman in the relationship – within the LGBTI community we can’t even unite on the day and just be people.
We look forward to receiving your email volunteering for the Pride Board, so that your valuble suggestions, help and time can be put to good use in preparation for Joburg Pride 2011.

Loving PARAMANEL’S comments.
First of all I think we should all be thankful to have a top10 International DJ on the line up. No matter what colour. Through this we are guaranteed the latest tunes and fresh international mixes, WELL DONE PRIDE ORGANISERS. Secondly I totally DISAGREE with the fact that the board have taken a decision to have the right to close access to the PRIDE party from 14H30 onwards. This is a disaster, what about all those people who will pop in later in the afternoon for a drink. Numbers have never been a problem and the venue is big enough. I just hope you guys are not making a mistake here as this will just PISS people off. Just make sure there’s enough security patrolling and we will have a safe event.
Can’t Wait.

With reference to your comment on the decision to close gates from 14h30. This is not to stop people popping in. We have previous experience with events and Pride...and this is put in to protect all the attendees of Pride as well as a requirement of our JOC application. We never know what is going to happen on the day of Pride and for safety reasons we may have to close gates. There is a maximum capacity for the venue, as with any venue. We are not stating this upfront to piss people off :) Perhaps we should actually list all the security and precautions we DO put in place to make this a safe event for all who attend, and all those who attend in the spirit of Pride.
