After the Cape Town Pride 2022 Parade, LGBTIQ people, friends and family gathered at Green Point Track on Saturday 26 February to kick off the mardi-gras celebrations.
The Covid-limited crowd of around 2,000 revellers were treated to music, a variety of food and craft stalls and entertainment from the likes of Manila von Teez and Yahto Kraft.
DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen was among those who spoke at the event, addressing the ongoing scourge of hate crimes and the plight of the LGBTIQ community in Ukraine.
The event was backed by the City of Cape Town and corporate participants included companies such as Microsoft and Gilead and brands like Fanta.
