A report by a US organisation has found that homosexuality is becoming more accepted in countries around the world.
Compiled by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, researchers studied trends among more than 30 countries.
According to the report, 27 countries showed an improved approval of homosexuality while only four countries – Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Latvia and Russia – saw a decline in the approval of homosexuality.
Of the countries included in the report, the top five most pro-gay nations were listed as the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, and Belgium.
South Africa, the most progressive African nation in terms of its LGBT-friendly legislation, was listed among the least tolerant countries alongside Turkey, Cyprus, seven ex-socialist states, East Asian nations and Latin American countries.
The report found that younger, more-educated, less-religious and urban people tended to be more accepting of homosexuality compared to other groups.
