OBAMA: HOMOSEXUALITY NOT A CHOICE

US President Barack Obama, at a youth town hall meeting broadcast by MTV, has said that he believes that people are born gay.

In response to a question on the topic, he said: “You know, I am not obviously – I don’t profess to be an expert. This is a layperson’s opinion. But I don’t think it’s a choice. I think that people are born with, you know, a certain makeup, and that we’re all children of God.”

He went on to add: “We don’t make determinations about who we love. And that’s why I think that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is wrong.”

Obama has been criticised for his apparently contradictory position on anti-gay US laws such as the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ ban on gay and lesbian military personnel.

While he has called for the law to be scrapped his administration continues to defend the policy in the courts.
