COMPANY LAUNCHES GAY MARRIAGE ICE-CREAM

A US ice-cream manufacturer has renamed a popular flavour in its range to celebrate the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the state of Vermont.

Ben & Jerry’s has announced that its ‘Chubby Hubby’ flavour of ice-cream would now be known as ‘Hubby Hubby’. Same-sex marriage became legal from the 1st of September in Vermont.

The company entered into a partnership with Freedom to Marry, a national organisation in the movement for marriage equality in the US, in order to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality.

“At the core of Ben & Jerry’s values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to,” said Walt Freese, Chief Executive Officer of Ben & Jerry’s.

“From the very beginning of our 30 year history, we have supported equal rights for all people. The legalisation of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream.”

According to The Boston Herald, a “wedding-themed” Ben & Jerry’s truck drove around Vermont yesterday giving out free scoops of the ice cream.

Same-sex marriage is now legal in the US states of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Maine.
