OUT OPENS NEW OFFICES
OUT, the lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgender support organisation has opened new offices at 745, Park Street, Arcadia, Tshwane. The official opening, held last week Friday, was undertaken by Commissioner Jody Kollapan, the Chair of the South African Human Rights Commission.
OUT is registered with the Department of Social Services as a Non-Profit Organisation. It has eight staff members and over 50 volunteers. There are now three offices, in Arcadia, Mamelodi and Atteridgeville. The organisation’s work is supported by national and international funders as well as through community donations. The work of OUT takes place under three focus areas, these being:
Direct services; Telephonic counselling and information line, psychotherapeutic support groups, sexual health work, lesbian programmes, community development and a study group for therapists.
Research; This includes quantitative representative studies on the levels of empowerment of LGBT people in Gauteng and the sexual practises of young gay men in Gauteng.
Mainstreaming programmes; These are programmes to integrate gay and lesbian issues within the Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa (PPASA), loveLife, Gauteng provincial victim empowerment forums, the South African Social Services, and others.
