Jake Gyllenhaal tackles those bisexual rumours

Jake Gyllenhaal, star of The Day After Tomorrow and of the upcoming gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, has, revealed that he is actually flattered by rumours that he is bisexual. The scrumptious 24 year old confection, who’s been romantically tied to actress Kirsten Dunst in the past, told Premiere magazine that it all “means I can play more kinds of roles. I’m open to whatever people want to call me.” He added that while he’s never really been sexually attracted to men,” I don’t think I would be afraid of it if it happened.” Bless. That’s all we really ask for Jake – a mind open to possibilities. Brokeback Mountain, in which Gyllenhaal gets to lock lips with Heath Ledger, has won much acclaim in screenings at festivals around the world. It’s scheduled for release in South Africa in March next year.

Robbie Williams living the highlife

To no doubt celebrate the success of his new album, Intensive Care, Robbie Williams has apparently splashed out on an £8million luxury yacht. According to tabloid sources, the star is aiming to spend his hols in the sunny Mediterranean on the boat at sea. (And out of sight from the paparazzi.) Robbie has also recently revealed that he won’t have sex in his Los Angeles home because it would then feel “contaminated” and dirty. “I love my house and my bedroom and don’t want to have anyone back there.” he told the Sun. Uhh, right. Although he did add, “When I travel I go to the other extreme. I offer myself far and wide to all the known universe.” Hmm. Perhaps that’s what the yacht is really for?

The ‘Newlyweds’ call it quits

The non-stop rumours and denials of a split have been fodder for the tabloids for months, but it’s finally come true. Sickeningly beautiful couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are officially splitting. The musical duo first came to prominence in the MTV reality show, Newlyweds, which documented their marital life. “After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” reads a statement issued by the couple’s publicists. Whether the marriage has been in trouble for some time, or the rumours and media pressure actually led to the split is unknown, but as recently as October Jessica Simpson was insisting that all was well at home. When asked why she was no longer wearing her engagement ring, she then told OK! magazine that “I don’t need diamonds on my finger to show that I love my husband”. While Simpson’s star has been on the rise for the last two years, thanks to a relatively successful singing career, makeup and clothing products, and the start of a promising acting career, hunky husband Nick has not been so lucky. His solo album was a flop and he’s had little success since.

Tom and Katie’s marriage on hold. For now.

Tom Cruise has decided that he won’t marry pregnant fiancée Katie Holmes until after she’s given birth to their baby. The enthusiastically-in-love actor has told Barbara Walters, in a TV special, that they will tie the knot next year, and not at Christmas as has been rumoured. (No news on whether or not he jumped onto Walter’s couch during the interview). Cruise has also revealed that he has bought an ultrasound sonogram machine so that he and the missus can follow the baby’s progress. He added that the couple don’t yet know if the little tyke is a boy or a girl. Tom plans to donate the very expensive machine to a needy hospital once he’s done with it.

A bad week for Michael

Michael Jackson is really not having a good week. It began with yet another lawsuit (to add to his growing collection). This time he’s being sued by his former manager Dieter Wiesner, claiming breach of contract around merchandising right and demanding $64 million. Then, another former business associate, Frederic Marc Schaffel, who is also suing Jackson separately, released a series of embarrassing voicemail messages to the media. Aside from Jackson’s juvenile sounding demands, he is also heard to make anti-Semitic comments: “They suck- they’re like leeches. I’m so tired of it,” Jackson is alleged to say in the tapes. “They start out the most popular person in the world, make a lot of money, big house, cars, and everything, end up with, penniless. It is a conspiracy. The Jews do it on purpose.” Abraham H. Foxman, director of the Anti Defamation League responded with a statement, saying “Michael Jackson has an anti-Semitic streak… It seems every time he has a problem in his life, he blames it on Jews.” He has demanded an apology from the beleaguered singer. Jackson is now living in the Middle East following his acquittal on child molestation charges in the USA. I don’t expect he’ll be back in the good ol’ USA anytime soon.

Will Young does karaoke

The Sun has reported that pop star Will Young and former classical warbler and now budding pop-singer, Charlotte Church were seen singing Karaoke in a pub in Wales. Will sang his hit song Evergreen, and followed that with a duet with Charlotte. While, admittedly, the pub is owned by Charlotte’s mother, it’s still unexpected behaviour from stars who would normally charge mega-money to appear live. The pub’s lucky patrons however got a free show. One was quoted as saying “I couldn’t believe it. For the price of a pint I got to see two of Britain’s biggest pop stars live.”
