Another hunky TV superhero on the way

If you’re a fan of Smallville, and especially, Tom Welling, who plays Superman (Superboy?) then prepare to get excited all over again. Producers of the hit show have announced that they will be creating another superhero TV series, also starring another drop-dead-gorgeous hunk. The comic book icon in question is Aquaman – king of the seas. Best of all, his skintight outfit is even more revealing that Superman’s. The actor chosen for the part is 28 year old 6’2 Will Toale. Huh? Who? Yep, Will is a relative newcomer to showbiz, although he appeared on a recent Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. The model and actor (see picture) has also worked on the soapie Guiding Light, and the films Tempting Adam and Uptown Girls. He was selected from over 400 candidates for the part. The show has been described as “as a contemporary reinterpretation of the character that lives in the deep sea and enlists oceanic creatures to help him in his crime-fighting endeavors”. Our prediction for the show’s success? Near naked hunk + lots of water = huge ratings.

Angelina and Brad officially breeding!

Prepare yourself for what will probably be the most attractive human being to ever walk on the planet. Yep, a few million year’s worth of evolution will reach its pinnacle when Angelina Jolie gives birth to Brad Pitt’s baby in a few months’ time. The universe may well come to a satisfied end at that point. The usually secretive couple’s publicists have admitted that the pregnancy is really for real. “I can confirm they are expecting,” said Brad’s spokesperson Cindy Guagenti. Earlier this week, rumours were circulating that Brad (42) had phoned his ex Jennifer Aniston to let her know the news before she read it in the papers. This will be the first biological child for the couple. Angelina (30) has adopted two children – Maddox, 4 and Zahara, 1 – with Brad recently applying to co-adopt. Now speculation is rife on when Brangelina will finally marry. Jennifer’s apparent unwillingness to have children was mentioned as a possible reason for the former couple’s split.

Colin Farrell sex tape comes and goes

What is it with celebrities and sex tapes? Surely you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realise that if you let someone tape you having sex, and you’re a mega-star, they will invariably try to flog the footage. Well, someone best tell that to Colin Farrell, who may or may not have shut down a website that was selling 15 minutes of x-rated video footage of him having sex with former Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain – selling for $14.95. DirtyColin.com, which was flooded by visitors, was open for about a day before it was shut down. While Colin’s people say that they shut it down, the site’s owner, John Taylor, denies this, saying that it closed down because of overwhelming traffic. “Mr. Farrell will take legal action against anyone who tries to distribute this tape,” said Colin’s publicist. A court order had been issued against Nicole last year to stop the tape from being seen. She had previously appealed for Colin to make the full footage available for mutual profit, arguing that it would be leaked anyway. Her people have denied that the latest online leak of the footage came from her. Sadly, based on the few screenshots that we’ve seen of the tape, there’s not that much of Colin on view, with the focus being largely on Nicole. Lucky girl.

Lindsay Lohan in Vanity Fair furor

After much mutually-beneficial hype around a ‘nude” photo shoot and an in-depth personal interview with Lindsay Lohan by Vanity Fair, the whole thing’s turned into a quagmire of accusations and lies. First, the pictures are not nude at all, with nothing really revealed, then Lindsay’s people tried to get the magazine to remove statements she apparently made about drug use, and now 19 year old Lindsay is denying having said many of the comments quoted. In the supposedly “tell all” interview, she is reported to have admitted to suffering from bulimia, and to having taken drugs in the past. The, at times skeletal, star has denied being bulimic and responded with a statement saying that, “The words that I gave to the writer for Vanity Fair were misused and misconstrued, and I’m appalled with the way it was done.” Vanity Fair, however, has stood behind the accuracy of the story. Lindsay was spotted on the street clutching a copy of the magazine.

Kevin Spacey outed (sort of)

Oscar winning Actor Kevin Spacey has long been at the centre of rumours about him being gay – which he has consistently denied. Now it’s official! Well kind of. A government funded British project set to mark LGBT history month named Kevin as a gay role model in the arts on the Department of Education’s website. The project’s Paul Patrick has apologised for the ‘mistake’, saying, “We’d love to be able to explain how it happened, but we can’t. We deeply apologise for the distress we’ve caused. It’s the sort of thing we’re totally against, and stupidly, we’ve ended up doing it ourselves.” There has been no comment from Kevin or his camp. The last time that the subject of his sexuality came up in the media was in 2004, when the star was mugged at 4:30 in the morning in a park well known for gay cruising. He’s been oddly silent on the matter since then.

Heath Ledger comments on Brokeback ban

The ever-delicious Heath Ledger has lashed out at attempts to bar the screening of his gay-themed cowboy romance movie Brokeback Mountain. The film has been pulled from some cinemas in Utah and Washington following calls for a boycott in the USA by conservative gay-hate organisations and the Mormon Church. He compared the move to racism at the premiere of the film in Melbourne, saying, “I heard a while ago that West Virginia was going to ban it. But that’s a state that was lynching people only 25 years ago, so that’s to be expected.” Heath told the Sydney Morning Herald that, “I think it’s hilarious and very immature of a society. If two people are loving… I think we should be more concerned if two people express anger in love, than love”. Sadly, the only loving Heath will be doing off-screen is with his wife Michelle Williams.
