BRETT GOLDIN MURDER FILM TO PREMIERE IN CT

A new documentary about the murders of gay actor Brett Goldin and fashion designer Richard Bloom will premiere in Cape Town this week.

The special screening of Oscar award-winning director Jon Blair’s film, Murder Most Foul, is part of the Encounters Film Festival.

The documentary features acclaimed South African born actor Sir Antony Sher as he takes the audience on a painful reconstruction of the events leading up to the deaths of the two young men.

It not only includes friends and colleagues of the murdered artists, but also explores the structural poverty of the desolate areas of the Cape Flats. It highlights the omnipresence of violence and the rampant abuse of the drug tik with the Mother City as a backdrop.

Director Jon Blair follows Sir Antony Sher as he engages with veteran actor John Kani, who wonders what has happened to ubuntu and Archbishop Desmond Tutu who feels that the extent of the damage caused by apartheid is “unfathomable”. André Brink, Robert McBride and family and friends of the two talented slain artists also contribute to the discussion.

Goldin and Bloom were brutally murdered in the early hours of Easter Sunday morning 2006 following a botched hijacking and robbery.

Sir Antony Sher, Goldin’s mother Denise Goldin, Justice Albie Sachs and Hazel Makuzeni will be present at the screening and will lead a ‘question and answer’ discussion after the film.
