JAN UYS CASE POSTPONED AGAIN
The case of crimen injuria against the controversial head of the discredited Gay and Lesbian Alliance, Jan Uys, has again been postponed in Cape Town.
Uys made an appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges that he had made claims that ID Cape Town City mayoral committee member Simon Grindrod had paid for sex with a male prostitute.
The prosecutor, Titi Mthimunye, asked for a postponement so that the Western Cape directorate for public prosecutions could decide on whether to prosecute Uys.
Uys’s attorney Rheaz Khan said that prosecutors had little to go on as there was no evidence that Uys was actually connected to the anonymous internet blog which made the claims against Grindrod. Uys has denied that he is the blogger in question.
The judge ordered Uys to appear in court again on September 21, where another charge relating to the theft of R250 is expected to be added to the charge sheet.
