While reports claim that the popular Boksburg nightclub, Ramp Divas, was shut down by the authorities on the weekend, the venue’s owner insists that the club will be open for Joburg Pride weekend.
According to reports in the local community newspaper, the Boksburg Advertiser, the venue was raided, along with three other clubs in the East Rand, by over a hundred officers, including the dog unit, in the early hours of last Sunday.
It was apparently shut down until further notice on the alleged basis that drugs were found on the premises and that a liquor license could not be produced, said the newspaper.
However, speaking to Mambaonline, Ramp Divas owner, Rudi, insisted that these claims were false, saying that, “No drugs were found on the premises,” and that the venue was only shut down temporarily because of a fire regulation violation.
He added that the matter has been dealt with and that the club would be open by the weekend in time for its Joburg Pride after-party.
Ramp Divas, billed as a gay club, has of late come under fire for attracting too many straight punters which has led to complaints by some gay clients that they have felt unsafe. At one point it’s said that the venue opened a gay-only dance floor in response.
