GAYS BLAMED FOR EARTHQUAKES
An Israeli politician has claimed that recent earthquakes in the country were caused by Israel’s growing tolerance of gays and lesbians.
“Why do earthquakes happen? One of the reasons is the things to which the Knesset gives legitimacy, to sodomy,” Shlomo Benizri from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Shas Party told the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) in a debate on the country’s readiness for earthquakes.
In the last week, Israel has been shaken by two earthquakes thought to have originated in Lebanon. A regional fault line also caused earthquakes in the area late last year.
According to Benizri, the earthquakes, which have not resulted in any significant damages or injury, could be prevented by reversing LGBT human rights gains in the country.
“God says you shake your genitals where you are not supposed to and I will shake my world in order to wake you up,” warned Benizri.
The country’s Attorney General, Menachem Mazuzruled, recently ruled that Israeli same-sex couples can adopt. Homosexuality was decriminalized in 1988.
