A transgender model is set to compete in the hit reality show, America’s Next Top Model, reports Us Weekly magazine.
The 22 year old receptionist, named Isis, is said to identify herself as “a woman born physically male” and told Us that, “my cards were dealt differently”.
The new season of the show, which is hosted by Tyra Banks and sees fourteen women compete for the title of “top model”, is set to start in September in the US.
While some have described the announcement as a publicity stunt, Neil Giuliano, the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) disagreed.
He described the move as “an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television”.
He added that: “We applaud Tyra Banks… for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible”.
