GAY OLYMPIC WINNER GETS STAMPED
Advertorial
Matthew Mitcham, the openly gay Australian Olympic gold medal diver, has been immortalised in a stamp issued by the Australian postal service.
The stamp is part of series featuring Australian sporting heroes who won gold at the recent Beijing Olympic Games.
“Australia has immortalised its gold medallists at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on a series of special commemorative stamps,” said the postal service on its site.
Mitcham, 20, was the only openly gay male athlete at the Beijing Olympics.
He stunned commentators when he beat out the Chinese favourite in the men’s 10 metre platform competition to earn the highest score ever earned in diving at the Olympics.
