A view of Gran Canaria

Hundreds of holiday makers have been stranded following the sudden closure of a gay resort on the island of Gran Canaria.

Guests were told to leave Club Tucanes after the resort operators were apparently given an eviction order following claims of unpaid rent.

New guests were also turned away when they arrived for their holidays at the complex.

The resort has claimed that it was forced to shut down due to the complete collapse of its sewerage system, which, it says, the landlord refused to maintain.

On its Facebook page, the resort said: “Club Tucanes has closed due to a health and safety issue and a new complex will open soon.”

While some guests have been accommodated at other hotels it is unclear if there will be space for all the visitors.

Gran Canaria is part of the Canary Islands archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. It has become a popular gay holiday destination.
