UK’S FIRST LADY TO ATTEND PRIDE
The wife of London’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown has shown her support for the LGBT community by agreeing to march in London’s annual Pride parade this Saturday. Sarah Brown is the first Prime Minister’s wife to take part in the parade.
While Gordon Brown is not able to march due to security concerns, he will host a small reception at 10 Downing Street for Pride organisers, gay rights campaigners and representatives of the pink press.
“The Prime Minister will be showing his support at the reception on the morning of Pride,” a spokesperson said.
The mayor of London Boris Johnson has expressed his “delight” at Mrs. Brown’s decision, but said that he was disappointed that he could not attend pride as it clashed with his son’s Birthday.
Johnson made his Pride debut last year and was gratified by the warm reception he received when he led the parade.
….. I’m not a fan of Gordon Brown (or of politicians in general) but I have to say that my respect for him just increased. I hope other world leaders will be watching, especially Obama who preached so elegantly during his election campaign about equality but has sadly failed to deliver anything (yet). And African leaders should take note as well.
