ATLANTA BAR RAID ANGER
Hundreds of people have protested against last week’s raid on a gay leather bar in Atlanta.
Thursday’s raid on the The Atlanta Eagle bar was slammed for officers being unnecessarily aggressive towards patrons and staff. It was also claimed that officers used derogatory terms during the incident.
The bar’s owner said that his business was unfairly targeted because of its gay clientele. During the police action, patrons were reportedly forced to lie on the floor and some were allegedly handcuffed for no reason.
Police said that the venue was raided following complaints about alleged criminal conduct and because it did not have the correct business licenses.
Four dancers, who performed in their underwear, were arrested for providing adult entertainment without a permit and four bar employees were arrested for not having the correct business permits.
The Atlanta Police department said that it is investigating the “allegations of improper behaviour by police officers conducting the investigation”.
