CLINTON SPEAKS ON GAY MARRIAGE

Former US President Bill Clinton has said that he has reversed his position on same-sex marriage since his term of office.

Speaking to Anderson Cooper in an interview broadcast on CNN on Friday, Clinton, who was once against the legalisation of same-sex marriage, said:

“I am no longer opposed to that. I think if people want to make commitments that last a lifetime, they ought to be able to do it. I have long favoured the right of gay couples to adopt children.”

He added that he also believed that it should be up to each state to decide whether on not to allow gay marriage.

“I was against the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage nation-wide, and I still think that the American people should be able to play this out in debates,” Clinton said. “But me, Bill Clinton personally, I changed my position,” he said.

When asked why he had changed his mind, Clinton responded: “I had all these gay friends, I had all these gay couple friends, and I was hung up about it. And I decided I was wrong.”
