Elton John is to return to South Africa next year for a limited series of picnic-style concerts, entitled Under African Skies, along with long-time collaborator and renowned percussionist, Ray Cooper.

The tour comprises live performances at the Botanical Gardens, Emmarentia, Johannesburg on Sunday March 21, 2010, Wednesday March 24 at the outer fields of the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban, Friday March 26 at the NMMU Sportsfields Port Elizabeth and lastly at the Val De Vie Wine and Polo Estate in the picturesque Paarl/Franschhoek valley on Sunday March 28.

The openly-gay John, who this week was forced to cancel a number of shows in the UK due to the flu, will celebrate his 63rd birthday on March 25th while in South Africa.

Recent reviews from the ‘Elton John featuring Ray Cooper’ show in London have been glowing.

The Times said that the show was “a hardcore and highly impressive display of the piano man’s craft” while The Evening Standard wrote:”His piano playing was powerful whilst his vocal reached master chef levels.”

Tickets will be available from Computicket closer to the time.
