A new gay and lesbian festival, set to take place in the Mother City in December, was launched on Thursday last week in Cape Town.

The Rainbow Festival – with The Wizard of Oz as its theme – is set to run for five days, from the 16th to the 20th of December and will include a number of fun events starting with the Off to Emerald City Carnival and Circuit Party.

Included in the programme is a bus tour to Tulbagh and an all day party at Shisa Guest Farm. And, especially for the ladies there is a Party Bus tour through the city.

The Seaquined Slipper Cruise will take guests out on the bay and ends with a fabulous dinner. To close the festival, a day of gay sport and fun will be held at Oudekraal to say Farewell to Dorothy.

The festival was officially launched at the newly opened burger bar and restaurant Beefcakes in Green Point and featured camp versions of the characters from The Wizard of Oz and a performance by singer Lu Chase.

the organisers said that they aim to “put the Mother City back on the top of gay holiday destinations for both local and international tourists as well as breathing new life into Gay Cape Town.”
