Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has been named the Sexiest Man Alive in People magazine’s annual list.
He heads a selection of 15 men that includes such hunky luminaries as The Proposal’s Ryan Reynolds, Brokeback Mountain’s Jake Gyllenhaal, The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper, Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. footballer David Beckham, Mariah Carey’s husband Nick Cannon, crooner John Legend and Twilight’s Robert Pattinson.
Only one openly gay star made the list; 2009 American Idol runner up Adam Lambert, who was in tenth place.
This is the second time that Depp (46) has received the honour, the first time in 2003. Only two other stars, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, have won the title twice.
The magazine said that apart from his successful career on the big screen, “it’s his devotion to his family that really makes the actor so endearing”.
