SHERLOCK HOLMES WON’T BE ALLOWED TO GO GAY

The copyright holder of Sherlock Holmes has threatened to withdraw the film rights from producers if they make any future Holmes films with a homoerotic theme.

This follows comments by the star of the current Sherlock Holmes film, Robert Downey Jr. He has suggested in interviews that the relationship between Holmes and Dr Watson (Jude Law) may be more than platonic in the Guy Ritchie hit film.

“I think the word bromance is so passé. We are two men who happen to be roommates who wrestle a lot and share a bed,” he was quoted as saying, and he recently suggested in an interview with David Letterman that Holmes could be a “very butch homosexual”.

While the comments are thought to be in jest, Andrea Plunket, who holds the copyright to the character, was not amused.

“I hope this is just an example of Mr Downey’s black sense of humour. It would be drastic, but I would withdraw permission for more films to be made if they feel that is a theme they wish to bring out in the future,” she said.

“I am not hostile to homosexuals, but I am to anyone who is not true to the spirit of the books,” Plunket added.

Sherlock Holmes

is one of the holiday season’s biggest box office hits, earning over $220 million around the world to date.
