LOCAL GAY MEDIA SALES AGENCY LAUNCHED

An advertising sales agency that specialises in the gay media industry has been launched by owner Donovan Steyl.

Cape Town based Lunch Box Media was formed in September last year after Steyl identified a need in the market “to unite players in the gay media industry and to represent them in an unbiased way to potential advertisers”.

Another core aim, said Steyl, was “to introduce mainstream advertisers to the gay market” as he believes this to be “a market not to be ignored”.

Donovan, who studied psychology and marketing communications at Unisa (specialising in media marketing, public relations and advertising), worked for the Media 24 group for two years before embarking on his latest venture.

Lunch Box Media already represents a number of leading local gay websites and publications as well as the popular UK-based magazine, Attitude.

Steyl has started tackling the larger advertising agencies. “Businesses in the pink community are exhausted and it’s time to bring new advertisers to the pink publications. This will take time, but it’s a job I’m not afraid of,” asserted Steyl.
