VODAFONE APOLOGISES FOR GAY INSULT
Advertorial
Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile network company, has apologised for an employee who insulted gay people with a homophobic comment.
The member of staff ranted on the official Vodafone twitter page: “VodafoneUK is fed up with dirty homo’s (sic) and is going after beaver.” It was first thought that a hacker was responsible but this turned out not to be the case.
Following numerous complaints by outraged clients, the company tweeted that the comment was a “severe breach of rules by staff in our building” and that “it was dealing with that internally”.
It added, “we’re very sorry” and urged its gay clients to “Please keep your faith in us”.
In South Africa, Vodafone has a majority stake in the Vodacom mobile network.
