LESBIAN SOCCER TEAM APPEALS FOR HELP
A South African lesbian soccer team is appealing for support from the LGBTI community to raise funds for it to take part in the Gay Games in Cologne this July and August.
Behind the Mask reports that while The Chosen Few team has received a scholarship from the Gay Games committee to cover travel expenses and accommodation, it is still in desperate need of proper gear, assistance with local travelling expenses and funding for a pre tournament camp.
“Without donations there is no Chosen Few. We need support from the LGBTI community which will further motivate us to perform at our best”, Matshidiso Mofokeng, one of the team’s players told the website.
Run by the Forum for Empowerment of Women (FEW), the team will be hosting a fund-raising car wash and picnic at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg on Saturday 27 March and other fund-raising events over the coming weeks.
The Chosen Few won a bronze medal at the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago and another bronze medal at the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association World Championships in London in 2008.
