GIVENCHY FEATURES TRANS MODEL
Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci has been applauded for featuring a transgender model in his fashion label’s new Northern hemisphere fall-winter advertising campaign.
Tisci has used his long-time transgender personal assistant Lea T – formerly Leo – alongside a group of nine other diverse models in the campaign.
“She’s always been very feminine: super fragile, very aristocratic,” Tisci told WWD about his Brazilian assistant, who is apparently also studying veterinary medicine.
“She’s part of the family,” he added.
According to the website, Tisci explained that “including a transgender person exemplifies the masculine-feminine dichotomy that has become one of his design signatures…”
In the ad on the left, Lea T is wearing red lipstick and a feathered top.
disrespect. I find it a bit offensive that you refer to Lea T as Leo for pointing her out in the photo.
It is made clear in the article what her name is.
Maybe I’m overreacting but I do think you need to pay more attention to when you post these articles, especially when you copy and paste them.
In agreement
….. Agree as well. It shows serious lack of judgement and respect on the side of the reporter. Lea T looks amazing and hope to see more of her in the future.
Apologies. Our humble apologies to Lea T. You’re all quite right. This was missed in the editing of the article and has been corrected.
I must be stupid. Sorry, I must be stupid, but after thinking and thinking till I’m blue in the face, I can’t see what the problem is. If it’s ok to point out that she was once a he, what’s wrong with pointing out what her name was when she was sitll a he? Did she ever object?
