Questions have been asked after openly gay pop legend Elton John performed at a private function for a homophobic high profile political figure in the US.
John is believed to have been paid $1 million to sing and play the piano at the wedding of conservative radio host and political commentator Rush Limbaugh at a Florida hotel on Saturday.
Limbaugh, who hosts the highest-rated talk-radio program in the US, is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage and has often expressed homophobic positions on gay issues.
He has said in the past that “gay marriage has little to do with equality or love, but does have a lot to do with the pushing of an agenda onto a society that doesn’t want it”.
Limbaugh married his fourth wife Kathryn Rogers, who is 26 years his junior, on the weekend in front of around 400 guests.
John has been in a civil partnership with David Furnish since December 2005.
Limbaugh has been accused of racism, is against abortion and has said that “feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society”.
John has not yet commented on his performance at the wedding.
