TOP GAY BRITS LIST REVEALED

Advertorial

Mary Portas and Gareth Thomas

The Independent on Sunday newspaper has revealed its annual list of the most influential gays and lesbians in the UK.

The 2010 “Pink List” judges are former culture secretary Ben Bradshaw, broadcaster Clare Balding, Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill, and psychologist and author John Amaechi.

The newspaper said that the aim of the list – which includes performers, businesspeople, judges and politicians – is “to entertain and celebrate, infuriate and amuse. Above all, to kick-start a debate around the breakfast and lunch-table.”

The top spot was shared by Welsh Rugby player Gareth Thomas (35) who came out in December last year and Mary Portas (48), retail marketing consultant and host of the BBC series Mary Queen Of Shops.

They were followed by broadcaster and writer Stephen Fry. Gay rights activist Peter Tatchell was in 7th place and Torchwood / Desperate Housewives actor John Barrowman was number 17. The South African-born co-founder of Gaydar, Henry Badenhorst, was in 21st place.
