SA TO BID FOR MR. GAY WORLD
The organisers of Mr. Gay South Africa have announced that they will make an official bid to host Mr. Gay World competition in South Africa.
Mr. Gay South Africa (Pty) Ltd. said on Wednesday that it had lodged a letter of intent with the Mr. Gay World organisation and its president, Eric Butter, for South Africa to be the host country in 2012.
Brian Merriman, Director: Africa & Europe of Mr. Gay World, said at the recent Grand Finale of Mr. Gay South Africa 2010, that not only did South Africa produce the best national competition he had seen, but that he would also support the country’s bid to host the event.
Mr. Gay South Africa officials will, together with the 2010 winner Francois Nel, attend next March’s Mr. Gay World pageant in Manila, Philippines, where they will make a formal presentation for the bid.
“A programme for the delegates to Mr. Gay World 2012 has already been handed over to Mr. Gay World and will include visits to the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, Sun City, Pilanesberg Game Reserve, the Cradle of Humankind and Lesedi Cultural Village amongst others,” said of Mr. Gay South Africa Director of Operations Coenie Kukkuk.
“Tasks for the delegates will be included and reviewed by the judges. We are overjoyed to announce that the president of Mr. Gay World, Eric Butter, has reacted with enthusiasm to South Africa’s bid,” he added.
The 2012 host country is expected to be announced at the Grand Finale of Mr. Gay World on March 13th 2011 in Manila, when the reigning Mr. Gay World 2010, South Africa’s Charl van den Berg, will hand over his crown.
Kukkuk asked sponsors who are interested in supporting South Africa’s bid to host Mr. Gay World to contact him on coenie@mrgaysouthafrica.co.za.
