Gay Westlife singer Mark Feehily has revealed that he plans to join the ranks of celebrity gay dads like Elton John.
Feehily (30) came out in 2005 while also announcing that he was in a relationship with Kevin McDaid, a member of British boy band V.
“I want people to know the truth about my sexuality. I am gay and I’m very proud of who I am,” he said at the time.
Now, in a new interview with the Daily Mirror, Feehily announced that he and McDaid plan to marry. “We’re best friends and we live together and we’re going to get married soon. I can’t wait but we haven’t finalised the date.”
The star also confirmed that children will be part of their life. “It’s always something I’ve been sure of since I was 14 or 15 years old. Even knowing I was gay and before I came out I knew I’d love to be a father,” he told the newspaper.
“I’d like to think I’d be a good dad. It’s the dream for me that surpasses everything else, to nurture and bring up a kid and try and teach them all the right things.”
The couple first met at a 2005 Cheerios Childline Concert in Ireland and later announced their engagement in January 2010.
Westlife were formed in 1998 in Ireland and have gone on to sell over 44 million records worldwide.
