GAY MORMON COMES OUT ON TV MUSIC SHOW

Tyler Robinson

A 20 year old Mormon contestant in a reality singing competition has come out as gay to his father on US television.

Tyler Robinson from Folsom, California appeared on Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice to perform the song Hey, Soul Sister.

He also spoke about being gay, saying that “growing up Mormon was difficult for someone like me. I’m gay. It doesn’t define me, but that’s who I am. My mom’s definitely [OK] with me being gay.”

Robinson then discussed his estranged father. “My dad and I don’t have the best relationship. He hasn’t been supportive of my music. Also my father does not know that I’m gay. I haven’t actually told him yet. I guess he knows now.”

“I think you have a solid, full voice,” commented judge Blake Shelton, who put him through to the next round, about Robinson’s singing.

After his performance, he hugged his mother off stage, who told him “I’m so proud of you!”
