ADAM LAMBERT AND MOM HONOURED BY GAY GROUP

Openly-gay singer Adam Lambert and his mother have been honoured by the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, Adam and mom Leila received an award for their efforts in supporting LGBTI equality at the 2nd annual PFLAG National LA Event.

“I really feel like we are in this together. It takes all of us to do this. We really need to be supportive. We as straight people, we as gay people, we all need to be together on this. It really makes a huge difference,” said Leila in her acceptance speech.

Adam, who was described as an “inspiration” and “a role model”, also spoke at the event.

“I really came here for my mom. Because she got so excited about PFLAG and told me about the organisation and I said that’s great, I’m glad you’re getting involved. She told me about the work that you guys do…It’s really exciting to know that there are people that help support the parents as well, because it is a tough thing,” he said.

In June, Leila, along with Ellen DeGeneres’s mother Betty, took part in the West Hollywood Gay Pride Parade wearing a PFLAG t-shirt.

Lambert (29) became an international star when he finished as the runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol in 2009.

He came out as gay soon after, released a successful debut album and was nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song Whataya Want from Me.
