The youth wing of an Islamic political party in Malaysia has condemned Elton John’s planned concert because the gay singer is “incompatible” with Malaysian culture, reports the Malaysia Star.
“The authorities are aware that hedonism or excessive entertainment akin to poison, is spreading fast among Muslim youths,” PAS Youth Pahang PAS Youth chairman Shahril Azman Abdul Halim told the Harakah Daily.
“This is made worse by the practise of homosexuality. We cannot imagine how the youth will receive it, especially when the authorities failed to restrict it from the start,” he said.
John is scheduled to perform his Greatest Hits Tour concert in Malaysia on 22 November at the Genting Arena of Stars.
The PAS Youth has previously protested against concerts in Malaysia by Western stars, including those by Beyoncé and Rihanna.
