MR. GAY SOUTH AFRICA DONATES TO CHARITY

Mr Gay South Africa™ has made a donation of R36,750 to Nkosi’s Haven, a home for HIV orphans and HIV positive mothers in Johannesburg.

The money was raised at the recent Mr. Gay World Gala Auction Dinner during which souvenirs that the delegates brought from their home countries were auctioned off.

Mr. Gay World delegates also donated over 200 books to the library at Nkosi’s Haven, the event’s official charity.

“Wonderful – thank you all so much and thank you for nominating us as the beneficiary,” said Nkosi’s Haven Director Gail Johnson in a thank you message to the organisers.

Coenie Kukkuk, Director Africa for Mr. Gay World, told Mambaonline that it is important for the Mr. Gay World organisation to include an outreach programme to the broader community in the contest every year.

“Gay men are part of this world we live in and we care for others as well. HIV and Aids is still a major concern in both the LGBTI and straight communities in Africa – and often those who can take care of themselves the least – children – are the victims,” he said.

“Given the chance, many of these kids can survive and be productive members of society. The money will go towards every day needs or where there are shortages. We know that Mr. Gay World made a difference in some of these children’s lives.”

The 2012 Mr. Gay World competition took place in Johannesburg from 4 to 8 April and was won by Mr. New Zealand, Andreas Derleth.
