Worley in the midst of his anti-gay sermon

Around 2000 people have protested against American pastor Charles Worley, who earlier called for gays and lesbians to be imprisoned behind an electrified fence.

“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers,” said Worley in a recent Mother’s Day sermon at the Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina.

“Build a great, big, large fence – 150 or 100 mile long – put all the lesbians in there… Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out… And you know what, in a few years, they’ll die. Do you know why? They can’t reproduce.”

On Sunday, more than 2,000 people staged a demonstration against Worley at the Catawba County Justice Center in North Carolina, reported the Hickory Daily Record.

They held signs with slogans such as “Jesus had 2 dads and he turned out just fine”, “Hate speech is not free speech” and “I am a gay, moral, conservative Christian”.

About 50 counter-protestors were at the demonstration in support of Worley.

Meanwhile, at his church Worley received a standing ovation when he took to the pulpit.

“I’ve been a preacher for 53 years. Do you think I’m going to bail out on this? Everything I do, say, or preach, I believe in this book,” he told the congregation.
