SA ACTOR PLAYS NEW GLEE HUNK

South African-born singer-songwriter and actor Dean Geyer is shown shirtless in a promo for the latest season of the gay-affirming television musical show Glee.

Geyer, who left his home town of Johannesburg for Australia when he was 13 in 2001, has scooped a role in the hit television show, which is about to launch its fourth season in the US.

The 26-year-old actor plays the character of Brody Weston said to be a potential love interest for Lea Michele’s character, Rachel Berry.

The promo clip, which introduces Geyer’s character, shows Rachel chatting in a bathroom next to the sexy, freshly-showered Brody who is wearing nothing but a towel.

In an interview in the clip, Geyer, who still sports hints of a South African accent, says: “I play a character called Brody Weston. He’s showering when Rachel Berry walks in and he comes out naked.”

Geyer, who came third in the 2006 season of Australian Idol, released one album. He has since appeared in the Australian soap opera Neighbours as Ty Harper and in the Steven Spielberg produced show Terra Nova as Reynolds. He is said to be dating actress Jillian Murray.

Glee has broken new ground in mainstream television with its positive and affirming representation of openly-gay teens and their relationships.
