STEVIE WONDER APOLOGISES FOR ‘CONFUSED GAYS’ COMMENT
Legendary musician Stevie Wonder has apologised for saying that some gay people are actually just confused about their sexuality.
In an interview published in The Guardian newspaper last week, Wonder was asked about the recent revelation by up-and-coming fellow singer and songwriter Frank Ocean that his first love was a man.
“I think honestly, some people who think they’re gay, they’re confused,” Wonder said. “People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can feel connected, they bond. I’m not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the same sex. But that’s them.”
The comment was not well received and Wonder soon after issued a statement to The Advocate magazine in an attempt to clarify his position.
“I’m sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music,” said the star.
“Clearly, love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry and more unity, peace and understanding. Period.”
Twenty-four-year-old Ocean, who recently released his acclaimed debut album, Channel Orange, wrote in the album notes that his first love was at the age of 19 with another man.
i seriously dont get why he had to apologise, its the truth!!!!
Why the hell does he need to apologize for a statement he felt was true. Some people are confused about their sexuality, does that mean everyone that says anything about it needs to apologize. He is a humanitarian, supports all gay causes and now he is made to say sorry, wtf mate….
Agreed that he does not need to apologise. Get over the sensitivity and deal with real A -Holes like Rev Bogardt and Naidoos
Well, I also dont think he necessarily had to apologize for the statement, his answer was at the very best weird. He was not asked about his personal views on sexuality (more specifically homosexuality as he makes no reference to the converse, being that some people could be confused about their heterosexuality, instead he seems to assert sexual confusion exists on o e spectrum). He was asked about Frank Ocean, his answer insinuated that Frank is confused, which in a way denial of a oersons sexual prockamation. It’s like if u had to come out to a friend and they said you just confused. He didn’t engage with the question, the answer should have been centered around the support of Frank Ocean as that is what he was asked, not his analysis of sexuality ?
Heya this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I really appreciate this post. I have been looking all over for this! Thank goodness I found it on Bing. You’ve made my day! Thx again
