A Sri Lankan man has been convicted of breaking and entering after he broke into the hotel rooms of two Australian cricketers to offer them sex.

The 21-year-old man, identified as Abdul Karim, received a fine and a one month suspended jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Friday.

Karim managed to elude security at the Cinnamon Grand hotel in Colombo and went into one of the Aussie players’ rooms, claiming to be a male escort.

When the first player refused his offer of sex, Karim then barged into another player’s room.

Hotel security was alerted and he was promptly arrested.

The Australian team are in Sri Lanka to take part in the World Twenty20 tournament.

“No harm was done, but the intrusion was a serious embarrassment,” a senior official coordinating security for the tournament told AFP. “Since then, we have reviewed the arrangements and taken some new measures.”
