On the 13th of December, Legacy Ball returned to Hearty Collective to give Cape Town the ballroom event of the summer.

Cape Town’s premier ballroom event returned for the festive season with a summertime twist. The ball’s theme was Atlantis, with participants competing in their best jellyfish-inspired couture on the runway, a face category that called for gills, and a bizarre category that inspired costumes that looked like they came straight from the Mariana Trench.

Legacy Ball was created by the pioneering House of Le Cap two years after the tragic murder of Kirvan Le Cap – the founding mother of South Africa’s first ballroom house. In 2025 Legacy Ball took on a new format, no longer being hosted by a single house but rather being hosted as an event by and for the entire ballroom community.

The ball was judged by Wesley Le Cap, Maxine Wild, Slater Jaye LaBeija, SuffoK8 007 and Queezy 007. The night was MC’d by Rori 007, Freddie 007 and for the first time joining the mic, poet and playwright Koleka Putuma (007). The night was soundtracked by DJ sets by Dragmother and Lohaanda.

Prizes were up for grabs for all the category winners, including a free ticket to Tropical Disko, a free ticket to Everyday People and a glam gift from Foschini.

The Atlantis Ball was the last event in the Cape Town ballroom calendar. The next Legacy Ball, The Love Ball, will be taking place on the 14th of February 2026.
