Cape Town Theatre: Catch Marc Lottering in “Colleen The Musical”

Catch Marc Lottering in his latest production, Colleen The Musical – a heartwarming musical comedy lighting up the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town until 7 February 2026 that will have you laughing from start to finish.

Colleen The Musical tells the story of one of Lottering’s popular stand-up characters, Colleen Samuels, a cashier at the ‘Bye Bye Supermarket’.

She has always lived by the mantra, “If you don’t give your heart away, it will never be broken,” until Randall, a charming shelf-packer, turns her world upside down. Between witty performances, dazzling musical numbers and an impressive set, Colleen The Musical at its heart is a story about vulnerability and finding love in ordinary places.

It marks Lottering’s fourth musical comedy following his critically-acclaimed Aunty Merle trilogy. The musical, written, composed by and starring Lottering, was produced by Lottering’s husband and creative collaborator Anwar Mckay.

Colleen is the culmination of many award winning creatives, including direction from Lara Foot, musical direction from Charl-Johan Lingenfelder, set design by Patrick Curtis and choreography by Grant Van Ster.

Lottering is accompanied on stage by a stellar cast featuring David Chevers, Carlo Daniels, Jill Levenberg, Sizwesandile Mnisi, Kate Normington, and Anzio September

Reviews for the musical have been glowing, praising the play’s humour and excellent execution of what feels like an authentic local story.

Kristen Harding reviewing the musical for the Daily Maverick shared that, “At the heart of every Marc Lottering performance you can expect belly-aching laughs and sharp-witted commentary on South African cultures. But another quality he faithfully delivers is the ability to turn any show into a proper jol, and his latest musical extravaganza is no exception.”
