Joburg’s LGBTQ+ nightlife is about to reach new heights with Village in the Sky, a vibrant new gay party event promising an unforgettable mix of music, entertainment, food and community connection.
Taking place on Saturday, 25 April at the stylish Hotel Sky in Sandton, the event is the next evolution of The Village Joburg, which debuted in Norwood last year.
Now moving to a larger venue in the heart of Sandton, the organisers are promising an even bigger, more immersive experience — complete with free parking and special accommodation offers for those who want to turn the celebration into a full weekend getaway.
Doors open from 12:30 in the afternoon and the party continues until 2am, offering two distinct experiences in one spectacular event.
A Daytime Gay Pool Party
The festivities begin with a lively open-air pool party in a stunning courtyard setting.
Guests can soak up the atmosphere with live music, DJs, drag shows and roaming entertainment, while enjoying waiter service and a range of food options.
The daytime celebration also features:
- Sexy shooter boys
- A dedicated queer women’s area
- The option to pre-book a space for you and your friends
- Five different food selections – from pizza to Mexican.
Whether you want to swim, socialise or simply relax with a drink in the sun, the pool party is designed as a welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community to connect and celebrate.
The Nighttime Sky Club Experience
When the sun sets, the party moves upstairs to the exclusive Sky Club, which opens at 21:00.
With limited capacity, this intimate club experience promises spectacular views over Sandton and a high-energy party atmosphere. Guests can expect top DJs, incredible entertainers and a breathtaking aerial drag show performed high above the dancefloor.
There’s also a large outdoor deck, perfect for enjoying the skyline between sets.
Bringing Fresh Energy to Joburg’s LGBTQ+ Nightlife
Village in the Sky is the latest creation from Bruce Walker, the well-known organiser behind iconic LGBTQ+ events such as Babylon, Risqué, and Pretoria Pride.
Walker says the event was inspired by a desire to bring something fresh and exciting to the city’s LGBTQ+ scene.
“At the moment the party scene feels dead — the same thing every weekend,” he says. “People are bored with the lack of entertainment.”
Village in the Sky aims to change that by creating a welcoming environment where people can socialise, make new friends and enjoy a full day of entertainment.
“It’s a safe space to enjoy a day out with other people in the community. Why have a pool party at home? Let us entertain you instead,” adds Walker.
Something for Everyone
One of the event’s most unique aspects is its ability to cater to different generations and party styles.
Some guests may choose to enjoy the daytime pool party and head home early. Others can stay on for the late-night club experience.
“If you want to enjoy a day out, have a party and go home by 10pm, you can,” Walker explains. “Or if you want to feel young, you can stay for the club and party until 2am.”
With live music, DJs, drag performers and aerial acts, Walker believes there’s nothing quite like it currently happening in Gauteng.

- Combo Ticket – day party plus entry to the Sky Club after 9pm
- Sky Club Ticket – entry to the exclusive night club experience
