In Pictures: Inside the Queer Sky Club Party That Lit Up Sandton

Despite an autumn chill in the air, Johannesburg’s LGBTQ+ community showed up in full colour and high spirits for the much-anticipated Village in the Sky party experience on 25 April, proving that not even the weather could dim the city’s vibrant queer energy.

Held at the stylish Hotel Sky Sandton and hosted by longtime party promoter Bruce Walker, the event kicked off with a daytime event but really came into its own with the nighttime celebration. As the sun dipped and the city lights flickered on, the revellers ascended to the exclusive Sky Club.

The energy shifted from laid-back socialising to a full-throttle nightlife experience. The dance floor pulsed, drinks and conversation flowed and partygoers moved to the music while enjoying the view of the sparkling Sandton business hub.

Adding to the spectacle was a breathtaking aerial arts performance that captivated the crowd, suspending performers high above the dance floor in a dazzling display of strength and artistry, a literal elevation of the night’s already soaring energy.

According to Walker, the Sky Club party is set to become a regular event on Johannesburg’s queer nightlife calendar.
