In Pictures: MambaOnline Celebrates Queer Business Networking and Community

MambaOnline’s inaugural Queer Business Networking Social & Fundraiser in Johannesburg on 18 June proved to be a resounding success. It brought together LGBTQIA+ professionals, entrepreneurs, community members, and allies for an evening of connection, celebration, and support.

The gathering at the Naked Woolf in Rosebank featured an inspirational talk by guest speaker Sylvester Chauke, founder of DNA Brand Architects and one of South Africa’s most influential entrepreneurs, marketing innovators, and creative leaders.

The event, hosted by trans rights activist, artist and celebrity Yaya Mavundla, marked an important milestone for South Africa’s leading LGBTQIA+ news and community platform, creating opportunities for networking while helping raise funds to support MambaOnline’s ongoing work. Every rand raised through ticket sales and donations at the event was matched by The Other Foundation.

Managing Editor Nompilo Gwala said she was deeply moved by the community’s response. “We were overwhelmed by the incredible turnout and support,” said Gwala. “To see so many people show up for MambaOnline was both humbling and inspiring.”

She noted that the event, organised with support from Oxygen Media, highlighted the importance of community-driven spaces and support.

“This is something we want to continue growing,” Gwala added. “Our vision is to build on this momentum and create even more opportunities for our community to connect, collaborate, and thrive.”

Looking ahead, she encouraged supporters to continue investing in the platform’s future.

“As we look toward writing the next 25 years of MambaOnline’s story, ongoing donations and support remain essential. Every contribution helps us sustain independent LGBTQIA+ journalism and storytelling.”

Founder and Editor-in-Chief Luiz De Barros also thanked attendees for helping make the queer business networking event a memorable one. “The energy in the room was incredible,” said De Barros. “It was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our community.”

He also expressed appreciation to the organisations and businesses that partnered with MambaOnline.

“We’re enormously grateful to our sponsors and supporters who believed in this event from the start,” he said. “Their contribution helped make the evening possible and demonstrates a real commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ spaces and voices.”

Following the success of the inaugural gathering, MambaOnline plans to host more queer business networking and fundraising events aimed at strengthening community connections while supporting the sustainability of the platform.
