POLAND ELECTS 1ST TRANSGENDER MP

Anna Grodzka

A transgender woman, Anna Grodzka, has made history in Poland after she was elected as a Member of Parliament in recent elections.

Grodzka (57), who is from the newly-formed Palikot’s Support Movement party, won 19,451 votes in a district of Krakow.

With its support for gay rights and the legalisation of certain recreational soft drugs, the party has made a significant impact among younger voters.

Grodzka completed her gender reassignment surgery last year and told Polsat News that “my mission is to familiarise people with transgenderism”.

“I decided to be a candidate for Palikot’s Movement because I want the voice of people who are excluded and discriminated against in the Polish political system to be heard,” she wrote online.

Grodzka is also believed to be the only currently-serving transgender MP in the world.
