A new book claims that the late Christopher Reeve – who is best known for his role as Superman – once had an affair with a gay porn star in the 1970’s.
The book, Hollywood Babylon Strikes Again, includes a previously unreleased interview with the gay porn actor Cal Culver, who died in 1987 of AIDS-related complications.
According to the book extract, Culver – who performed under the name Casey Donovan – said that he met Reeve at a Broadway audition in the mid-1970’s.
“Christopher was a great lover and I think I liberated him sexually. I didn’t think he was gay but he seemed willing to try anything once. He was curious,” said Culver.
The affair apparently lasted two months and only ended when Reeve discovered that Culver was an adult film star. Culver added that Reeve was “the man of my dreams”.
Reeve died in 2004 from complications relating to being a quadriplegic following a spinal injury sustained in an equestrian competition in 1995.

It could well be that he was gay/and or bisexual. So, what! If he was wired that way, he would have been expressing himself by his true orientation. The pic of himself and Michael Caine in a passionate kissing scene in that 1992 movie tells me he was not unfamiliar with kissing a man! Other posters hint that there are other stories out there suggesting he was a FOD (Friend of Dorothy). What I don’t understand about all the negative comments made about this ‘disclosure’ is akin to homophobic outrage! How dare anyone say he was gay! Well, excuse me, as a gay person, I resent those comments because we exist as caring, loving and compassionate human beings just like our str8 brothers. And, like them,, we have our worts and clay feet, too! Remember he had a long-lasting relationship with three women (of record), was the father of three children (loving) and, as far as we knew, was in love with the women he had this relationship with. So, why condemn him if he did have a passionate relationship with Culver, he was only being true to himself! (Lucky guy- had the best of both worlds!).
