OUT-Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) Well-being is a progressive non-governmental organisation that works towards ensuring the rights of LGBT people, and is based in Tshwane. OUT provides direct health and mental health services, conducts research and implements mainstreaming and advocacy programmes.

OUT wishes to fill the following posts, with a starting date of 1 February 2007:

Sexual Health Manager

Responsible for the management of OUT’s direct sexual health services. This includes implementation of targeted HIV prevention programmes for gay men and lesbian women; coordination of OUT’s testing and treatment programmes and facility; product development; and mainstreaming sexual orientation issues into broader sexual health programmes.

The ideal candidate should have: at least 3 years experience in implementing HIV/AIDS or sexual health programmes; a graduate degree in psychology, the health sciences, development studies or related fields. S/he should work from a rights-based approach, be able to independently manage and develop programmes; have management experience in smaller and larger scale programmes; be able to systematically record programmes and impact; be able to enthuse and manage a small team; have a solid understanding of issues facing LGBT people and how these impacts on health; and be a team player.

Salary is negotiable and in the region of R200 000.00 p.a. (cost to company).

Advocacy Officer

Responsible for the management of OUT’s advocacy programme. This includes representing and advocating for the rights of LGBT people in a range of forums and policy development work. Activity areas include government, the human rights and broader gender sector.

The candidate should have: at least 3 years experience in advocacy implementation; a graduate degree in the social sciences; law; political studies or related fields. S/he should work from a rights-based approach, be able to independently manage and develop programmes; have project management experience; be able to systematically record programmes and their impact; have excellent networking and public speaking skills; have a solid understanding of issues facing LGBT people within South Africa and Africa; and be a team player.

Salary is negotiable and in the region of R180 000.00 p.a. (cost to company).
