CAMP DAVID CASE POSTPONED

The case of fourteen gay men arrested for partying naked at Camp David Bar in Tshwane last year has been postponed to 29 March.

Danie Hamman – owner of the club – together with the other thirteen co-accused, appeared at the Hatfield community court last week where the case was postponed.

Although police have stopped raiding the club, Hamman is adamant that he will take the police to court. He claims the authorities used the wrong warrant for searching his club, damaged his property and lied by claiming to have found illegal substances.

He adds that consecutive raids at Camp David bar last year have affected his business badly.

“People are now scared to come to the bar for fear of being arrested which is very bad for my business”, Hamman said.

He maintains that Camp David Bar is a private club and that nothing illegal took place in his bar on the day of the raid.

“I see this as anti-gay because at my bar it is written on the door that it is strictly private. I think I have been targeted by the police as a gay bar owner,” Hamman added.
