PMB GAY GROUP CLEANS UP RIVER
The Pietermaritzburg Gay & Lesbian Network has taken part in an initiative to keep the city’s river clean.
This was the second year that the organisation has been involved in the clean up of the Duzi River, which this year took place on 15 September.
Six volunteers – including Miss Gay PMB Midlands 2006 – from the Network took part in the project and joined other volunteers from various organisations in the clean up near Ortham Road. They collected 20 bags of refuse from the river over a period of three hours.
“We are proud to be part of this great initiative in cleaning up our rivers to ensure a cleaner environment and hope our contribution will go along way in reducing pollution of our rivers. This is a great occasion to create public awareness of the plight of our rivers,” said Anthony Waldhausen, Director of the PMB Gay & Lesbian Network
The river clean is an initiative of DUCT and A Rocha and with the support of Hulamin and The Witness.
