SIMELANE’S KILLERS TO APPEAR IN COURT
The five men accused of brutally killing former Banyana-Banyana player, Eudy “Styles” Simelane are scheduled to appear at the Springs Magistrate Court tomorrow, 13 May 2008, from 08h30.
The 07-07-07 Campaign to end hate crimes against lesbians, gay men and transgender people, together with the African National Congress Springs Parliamentary Constituency Office, has called for rape to be added to the men’s charge sheets.
The organisations have also demanded life imprisonment of the perpetrators should they be found guilty.
Permission to picket outside of the court has been granted and the 07-07-07 Campaign has urged “all activists, cadres, concerned individuals and the entire community to express their outrage at this hateful crime committed against a woman who was proudly living as a lesbian.”
Simelane, a former player in the South African national women’s soccer team, was assaulted, raped and murdered in the Tornado section of Kwa Thema in the East Rand at the end of April.
